Diploma Purpose

The Diploma of E-learning (BSB51301) aims to provide a framework for individuals in the development of competence to design, deliver, support and evaluate effective E-learning strategies in the workplace, underpinned by adult learning and educational principles.

It is not in the scope of the qualification to develop individuals to the level of software programmers. However, individuals will be immersed in the technologies of E-learning that will enrich their classroom contact experience and introduce them to the options of on-line delivery.

Diploma Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Diploma of E-learning, individuals should be able to:

  • Plan a series of training sessions to meet the identified requirements of a target group
  • Plan & promote appropriate training strategies
  • Evaluate e-learning opportunities materials
  • Develop individual learning plans
  • Evaluate organisational requirements to support e-learning
  • Establish an E-learning environment
  • Facilitate learning in an e-learning environment
  • Evaluate e-learning outcomes
  • Prepare the organisation for E-learning development & implementation
  • Analyse the requirements for a multimedia e-learning project
  • Develop a design for a multimedia E-learning product applying the principles of visual communication and instructional design

Diploma Structure

The Diploma of e-learning (BSB51301) is a blended qualification that has been recently released within the new Business Services Training Package, version 6. This qualification consists of 12 units of competency: 2 units from the Business Services Training Package, 4 specialist units from e-Business and 6 units from the Information Technology Training Package.

There are no pre-requisites for entry.

It is recommended that the learning and assessment programs be completed in the sequential order listed above as they build on skills and knowledge and provide continuity of learning.

Delivery Mode

The learning and assessment strategies will use the technology of E-learning to enrich the face-to-face classroom delivery experience and introduce individuals to online delivery. This approach immerses individuals in selected E-learning contexts and allows for the development of computer and technology fluency. The learning programs will use a problem-oriented delivery approach that requires individuals to use the technology and its application to work-based tasks.

Individuals will need to have the use of a PC or Mac, with MS Word and PowerPoint software and Internet access (56K modem or faster) for online activities.

Any individuals that do not have access to a computer outside the scheduled classroom times are encouraged to discuss their needs with UTS Training and Development Services.

Duration

The learning and assessment programs are offered flexibly to enable you to complete the qualification within five (5) months. Nominal duration includes 11 days off-the-job, approximately 32 hours of structured online activities and it can be expected that you may require an additional 21 days to complete the work-based assessment projects.

Two learning and assessment programs can be undertaken as stand-alone units:

  • Program 3: Becoming an E-trainer
  • Programs 4, 5 and 6: Design a Multimedia Solution (1), Apply a Multimedia Solution (2) and Create a Multimedia Solution (3) can be combined into one set.

The goal is to ensure individual immediate and on-going learning needs are addressed and supported.

All off-the-job programs are conducted on UTS Training and Development Services premises, unless otherwise specified.

Target Group

The Diploma of E-learning will benefit workplace trainers, subject matter experts, course developers and manager with training an development responsibilities by providing the knowledge and application of E-learning technologies and software. It will also benefit multimedia, web designers and programmers or IT professionals wanting to incorporate educational perspectives to E-learning.

Accreditation

The Diploma of E-learning (BSB51301) is nationally accredited through the Vocational Education Training and Advisory Board (VETAB) and is aligned to Units of Competency from the Business Services Training package e-Business Specialist Units and the Information Technology Training Package.

Mutual Recognition

UTS Training and Development Services acknowledges and supports mutual recognition and to this end will accept the credentials (Statements of Attainment or qualifications), where relevant, issued by other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) based in any State/Territory of Australia.

Recognition Assessment Processes

Many individuals may already be competent and have acquired units of competency from the Training Package for Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ98. Recognition assessment processes are available for each Unit of Competence based on relevant workplace experience, formal training or other expertise. Recognition will involve your submission of evidence in a portfolio form and be assessed by our assessors. Assessment

All learning and assessment programs in the qualification are assessed through on and off the job assessment tasks and a work-based project, which requires you to compile a range of evidence to demonstrate competence. These assessments consolidate the knowledge and skills gained during a learning and assessment program to enable validation and transfer of learning to the individual workplace context.

Award

Successful completion and demonstrated competence of a single unit entitles you to the award of a Statement of Attainment for the relevant unit of competence.

Successful completion and demonstrated competence of the set twelve (12) units of competence qualifies you for the award of Diploma of E-learning BSB51301.

The Diploma must be completed within two (2) years of commencement of a learning and assessment program and/or recognition assessment process to maintain currency of competency.

Customisation

To enhance the learning experience, UTS Training and Development Services customises any learning and assessment program to meet the specific needs of your organisation or industry. Programs can be delivered in-company or on UTS Training and Development Services Premises.

Inclusions

All learning and assessment programs include comprehensive learning materials, assessment, ongoing support, certification on completion, morning, afternoon teas and lunch.
