Certificate Purpose

The Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (BSZ40198) aims to provide workplace trainers with a high level and full range of training skills including; preparing and presenting training sessions, developing training programs, evaluating and assessing trainees to ensure learning outcomes have been achieved.

The Assessment and Workplace Training Competency Standards form the benchmark for assessment of assessors and workplace trainers across all industries, enterprises and training organisations.

The Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ40198 applies to individuals for whom training is a large part of their job, or a full job function within a structured assessment and training system. These individuals have considerable responsibility for training program development and delivery as well as assessment of training participants or employees.

The Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training is the national qualification required by all trainers and assessors delivering or assessing against nationally endorsed competency standards.

Certificate Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, individuals should be able to:

  • Identify the features of the national training framework
  • Plan, deliver and review training for the purposes of developing competency on a one-to-one or small group basis
  • Deliver training sessions as part of a training program
  • Plan a series of training sessions to meet the identified competency requirements of a target group
  • Plan and promote appropriate training strategies
  • Plan and conduct assessment for a specific context by determining the appropriate evidence, assessment method and developing an assessment tool
  • Review assessment procedures in a specific context
  • Record, evaluate and report on training

The Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ40198 incorporates a set of eight (8) units of competence that describe the required national standards of performance in the workplace. There are no prerequisites for entry, although Train the Trainer: Workplace Training is a prerequisite for the Professional Facilitation of Learning program. It is recommended that the learning and assessment programs be completed in the sequential order listed above for continuity of learning.

UTS Training and Development Services has designed five (5) compulsory learning and assessment programs which align with these eight (8) units of competence. The learning and assessment programs form the basis of the qualification.

Duration

The learning and assessment programs are offered flexibly to enable individuals to complete the qualification in five (5) months. Individuals may choose to enrol in a single learning and assessment program or may continue on to complete the qualification. The goal is to ensure individual immediate and on-going learning needs are addressed and supported.

All off-the-job programs are conducted on UTS Training and Development Services premises, unless otherwise specified.

Target Group

The Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training is ideally suited to anyone responsible for workplace assessments, the development of training programs or those who provide training advice or conduct training needs analysis and could include:

  • Workplace trainers working in a one to one or group training situation
  • Vocational trainers in an educational or workplace setting
  • Training program designers/coordinators
  • Workplace assessors
  • Team leaders/supervisors/line managers who are involved in implementing structured learning and assessment in the workplace

Accreditation

The Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ40198 is nationally accredited through the Vocational Education Training and Advisory Board (VETAB) and is aligned to the Australian National Assessment and Workplace Training Competency Standards.

Mutual Recognition

UTS Training and Development Services acknowledges and supports mutual recognition and to this end will accept the credentials (Statements of Attainment or qualifications), where relevant, issued by other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) based in any State/Territory of Australia.

Recognition Assessment Processes

Many trainers and assessors may already be competent and have acquired a number of units of competency from the Training Package for Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ98. Recognition assessment processes are available for each Unit of Competence based on relevant workplace experience, formal training or other expertise. Recognition will involve your submission of evidence in a portfolio form and be assessed by our assessors. Assessment

All learning and assessment programs in the qualification are assessed through on and off the job assessment tasks and a work-based project which requires you to compile a range of evidence to demonstrate competence.
These assessments consolidate the knowledge and skills gained during a learning and assessment program to enable validation and transfer of learning to the individual workplace context.

Award

Successful completion and demonstrated competence of a single unit entitles you to the award of a Statement of Attainment for that relevant unit of competence.

Successful completion and demonstrated competence of the set of eight (8) units of competence qualifies you for the award of Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ40198.

On completion of this qualification, you will have achieved the nationally recognised standards for Assessment and Workplace Training at level four of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

The Certificate must be completed within two (2) years of commencement of a learning and assessment program and/or recognition assessment process to maintain currency of competency.

To enhance the learning experience, UTS Training and Development Services customises any learning and assessment program to meet the specific needs of your organisation or industry. Programs can be delivered in-company or on UTS Training and Development Services premises.

Learning pathway

Individuals who have completed the UTS Training and Development Services Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ40198 are eligible for 18 credit points toward the Bachelor of Education in Adult Education (HRD Stream) at the University of Technology, Sydney Faculty of Education.

Inclusions

All learning and assessment programs include comprehensive learning materials, assessment, ongoing support, certification on completion, morning, afternoon teas and lunch.
